Roman Reigns Proclaimed He’s The Best Wrestler In The World, Kenny Omega Responds

You had to know that The Cleaner was going to hear those comments eventually.

Last month, the WWE Network debuted a new series called Straight To The Source hosted by Corey Graves. The twist of the show was the questions wouldn’t come from the interviewer but from the WWE Universe themselves.

The first guest on this new series was Roman Reigns. He would tell Graves that he is “the best performer in-ring in the world right now.” This lit the internet on fire as everyone knew it was directed towards IWGP United States Champion Kenny Omega, and he responded in a recent phone interview with Bleacher Report.

Kenny Omega started wrestling professionally ten years before Roman Reigns did. Omega’s debut came in February of 2000; while it was August of 2010 for Reigns.

Omega actually wrestled for the WWE developmental territory Deep South Wrestling in 2005 and 2006

Andreas Hale of Bleacher Report stated that once the question was brought up to Omega, “you could almost hear the smile coming across his face with every word.” Omega stated that he wasn’t sure if Reigns’s comment was something the WWE told him to say or if he came up with it on his own.

Omega admitted that it was a very smart comment by Reigns because it definitely got the wrestling world talking. Also because “it sounds so ridiculous.” Omega would finish that thought with the following quote:

“By no means do I actually think he believes in those words. There’s no possible way.”

For Kenny Omega, he will defend his IWGP United States Championship against “Switchblade” Jay White at night two of The New Beginning in Sapporo, Japan on January 28th.

Roman Reigns will be defending his WWE Intercontinental Championship at the special Raw 25th anniversary show on January 22nd when he takes on The Miz.

I’ll preface this by saying Roman Reigns is an amazing wrestler. Every year on my Lost In The Midcard podcast, we have our awards show called The Marky’s and Reigns is nominated for WWE Wrestler of the Year.

However, I do think Kenny Omega is better and is one of the two best wrestlers in the world along with AJ Styles.

I didn’t have a good feeling about Omega coming to the WWE, but after the program with Chris Jericho, I think the odds are a lot better. If Omega ever does come to the WWE, they have no choice but to have a high-profile match between him and Reigns. It’ll be a guaranteed instant classic.
